VCU Children’s Medical Center
BACKGROUND: After working with several divisions of VCU, we were approached by the VCU Children’s Medical Center to update their existing Web site—a 100 plus page Web site that was geared towards patients and their families as well as VCU employees.
CHALLENGE: Based on initial client direction, PUNCH presented site template options ranging from animals and their young to outer space—and the client was thrilled. But upon further review with their coworkers, the direction changed. The site needed to appeal to the children and their families, yet still have a professional feel for the doctors, residents, and medical students that utilized the site.
EXECUTION: With two designers offering their creative talents, PUNCH was able to design a child-friendly site using soft colors, simplified patterns, and several images. Yet the clean layout added a sophistication that satisfied the medical professionals. From there, PUNCH worked closely with VCU’s programmer to ensure that all copy, images, links, and downloadable material were properly added to the appropriate 100+ pages.
IMPACT: In fact, we’ve formed such a great relationship with VCU Children’s that we have since worked on several additional projects including the 2009 Telethon campaign, the 2009 and 2010 Summer Safety Fair Poster, and several other department of pediatrics collateral.
