T-SHIRT COMPETITION TO WEAR ON CITY
It’s Richmond to a T.
Or, it will be when the winner of a T-shirt competition is announced next week by the Richmond Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The dozen entries in the design contest debuted last night at DoSE Cafe, 524 N. Second St., during the First Friday art walk. They’ll remain on display there through May 27.
Laura Marr of OIC | Briarpatch stopped in to check out her brightly colored rendition of Richmond symbols: a bit of ironwork, Poe’s raven, flowers in Shockoe Slip, the Main Street Station tower, a statue.
Absence had helped her heart grow fonder when she moved overseas for a few years.
“They’re things I remembered after I left and things I’ve enjoyed since I came back,” she said.
The winner will be announced Thursday at a National Tourism Week breakfast, after which T-shirts will be available in the winning design at the Richmond Visitors Center.
Jurors for the contest are Tripp Longest, graphic designer at RxPO/Wyeth; Christina Newton, president, Curated Culture; Chuck Scalin, retired assistant chairman, Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Communication Art; and Susan Winiecki, editor in chief, Richmond Magazine.
