What’s in a Name?

For years, I’ve been charged with naming businesses, products, and services. I realize the importance of branding and the relationship consumers develop with a name. However, I’m now tasked with the ultimate challenge. Naming my baby boy due this August.

With my background, I should be an expert at this. My husband and I have researched the books and online resources, developed lists, formed rationales, even tried using names on a trial basis. But without a creative brief, or an introduction, how can we assume what will work. Is he a thinker or a doer? A musician or an athlete? Will he be tough as nails or sensitive?

Then again, there’s the chance that this name could decide his fate for him. Now that’s a lot of pressure!

My hope is that the day he arrives, we’ll look into his little face, recall a name we scribbled onto a piece of paper months ago, and it will all make sense.

Until then, I’m open to suggestions.
