  • Charlie Connell width=

Charlie contributes over 20 years of experience as a design professional. He served on the initial council and is currently a board member for ART 180, is a volunteer for the Richmond Sports Backers, is a member of AIGA and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, serves on the advisory board of the Connor’s Heroes Foundation, and is a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

More recently, Charlie was the recipient of the Ad Person of the Year Award from the Richmond Ad Club for being a constant inspiration to his employees and for his numerous contributions to Richmond nonprofits.

On Sundays, Charlie can be found limping on the pitch where his wife, Renée, two children, Sophia and Seamus, and dog, Rasputin, support him in his attempt to master the beautiful game.

  • Philip Hertzler width=

Phil likes apples. For designing and developing—and for eating, too. And when he’s not busy with the Red Delicious, he’s on his Mac. After graduating magna cum laude from VCU Communication Arts and Design, Phil spent over a decade perfecting his web design and development skills. His expertise makes him PUNCH’s ideal director of interactive media.

Despite Phil’s obsession with electronics, his bigger passion lies in spending time with his wife and two children—and plotting the best way to acquire an (entire) island in the South Pacific to call home. Specifically one with an apple tree…and wi-fi.

  • Devon Hoff width=

With a résumé of ad firms in New Jersey, California, and Virginia—and experience from copywriting and editing to account and project management—it would seem that Devon simply cannot make up her mind. Not true! Since graduating from Rutgers University, Devon has used her ability to work on both creative and account sides to truly understand what it takes to get great results. And in true form, her role at PUNCH entails a little bit of everything. Devon and her husband spend their free time touring the city and walking in the park with their son, daughter, and crazy dog.

  • Amy Hentman width=

Production Manager, detail fanatic, juggling queen. We love Amy in the office because she oversees the many and myriad details involved in any job PUNCH produces. With her history as a manager and VP in traffic and production in Richmond, Amy has collected enough knowledge to qualify her as an expert. She has a degree in journalism and advertising from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, but was happy to quickly move south to seek the sun in Virginia. Now, between spending time with her husband, three children, two cats, and a gym membership, she is very content—with or without the sun.

  • Heidi LaGreca width=

After growing up in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, Heidi is ready to settle down. She graduated from Rutgers University before working in the photography industry in New York City. A stickler for correct grammar and spelling, Heidi is our resident copy editor. When not marking up employees’ artwork with her red pen, she manages projects through the shop. In her free time, you can find her doing yoga and hiking with her daughter, husband, and chow chow mutts.

  • Ken Gibson width=

PUNCH’s publication and production specialist, Ken was a staff designer for American Media, the parent company for the Globe, the Sun, and the National Examiner papers. In 1986, Ken moved his family to Richmond from Florida to manage the production of the Richmond Business Journal. For 16 years, Ken excelled in the print and design industry prior to joining the PUNCH team in 2002. Ken is a computer fanatic who spends his free time woodworking, cooking, and being the world’s greatest grandpa.

  • Sarah Shannon width=

Acting as one of the office “youngsters”—although certainly not the newest—Sarah graduated with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University’s communication arts and design program with a focus on digital imaging. At the beginning of 2005, she came on-board at PUNCH with the intent to haze any new employee or unsuspecting intern that joined the group after her. Sarah officially spends her time at PUNCH with creative designing, but unofficially spends her time planning fun distractions, er…activities…for the whole team. When not designing, project managing, or being the unofficial PUNCH cruise activities director, Sarah enjoys playing in the shootin’ arcade at her favorite place ever—Bass Pro Shops, in addition to planning her next Vegas trip with her husband, and of course endlessly chasing her dog, Lulu, around the backyard.

  • Erin Potter width=

With an economics degree from UVA and a communication design degree from VCU, Erin likes to use both sides of her brain at the same time. So don’t be surprised if she suggests a spreadsheet to go with your new logo. She has been working at local agencies in both account service and art direction since 1999. Erin has also spent time as a Richmond Ad Club Board Member and an instructor for VCU’s design program. If you spot her outside of work she is most likely cycling, traveling, or hangin’ with her hubby and son.

  • Matt Brown width=

Matt was always the artist and still brags about being featured in the newspaper when he was five. Not one to rest on his kindergarten laurels, Matt went on to get two degrees—one in communication arts and design and one in art education. After working in New York, San Francisco, Norfolk, and Arlington, he’s decided to settle down with his family back home in Richmond. When he’s not providing jaw-dropping illustration and cool graphics for our clients at PUNCH, you may find him doting on his son and daughter, changing diapers, mowing the lawn, or playing obscure vinyl LPs on his vintage turntable.

  • Stephanie Russell width=

A graphic design graduate of James Madison University, Stephanie entered the design arena creating custom stationery, gift wrap, rubber stamps, and more, for a national retailer while living in Chicago. This passion for patterns continues at PUNCH, putting her creative talents to good use for our clients. And it doesn’t stop there. She incorporates her eye for design into all aspects of life— from the hand-tiled floor in her bathroom to custom-designed prints throughout her home. When not creating on her Mac, Stephanie enjoys spending time on the beach with her husband and son, searching for unique furnishings for their home, and satisfying her sweet tooth with ice cream.

  • Rich Trevillian width=

After receiving a degree in graphic design from Virginia Commonwealth University, Rich moved to Sun Valley, Idaho and spent a decade and a half working as a magazine and newspaper production manager, print and web designer, and lumberjack. Since returning home, Rich enjoys rediscovering Richmond and civilization in general. He informs his design and art with a variety of interesting interests: if it is ancient, mythological, theoretical, outdoorsy, or generally out there, he is probably into it—as a result, Rich can typically be found painting, hiking, or researching something weird.

  • Cassandra Wilder width=

Growing up near Washington, D.C., Cassandra has always had a love of cities. When she moved to Richmond in 2001 for school, it didn’t take long for her to fall in love with Virginia’s capital. Before Cassandra graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Arts in 2005, she started out as an intern here at PUNCH. After wearing many “hats,” she is now a full-time graphic designer. Outside of the design world, Cassandra loves relaxing at home with her rescued pets, touring Virginia wineries, and playing a mean game of Texas Hold ‘em.

  • Donna Taylor width=

Donna can handle anything. Having four kids teaches you that. Twins teach you twice as fast. She earned a BA in social sciences at Virginia Wesleyan University while simultaneously impersonating a beach bum. An experienced corporate manager, she is happily returning to her long love affair with numbers and handles the books here at PUNCH along with HR duties. When she gets a chance to sit down, she maintains a personal blog and sells off the family goods on Craigslist and replaces them with items from Freecycle, moving recycling to a mind-boggling level of achievement.

  • Michael Zanconato width=

Michael has a need to produce—and be creative while doing it. While not quite compulsive, both his professional and extra-curricular pursuits center around the creative process. After earning a BA in graphic design from Old Dominion University, he worked in the advertising industry as a graphic artist, production manager, account executive, and as principal/creative director of Mazmedia. Michael has a keen eye and understanding of the big picture. He is equally comfortable handling print and Web design projects from conception through completion and that makes him a perfect fit here at PUNCH. If he isn’t working, he’s either immersed in a house project—demolition, remodeling, painting, landscaping—or hitting the links. He will shamelessly accept most any offer to be your 4th.

  • Dinah Mitchell width=

Dinah tried retirement, but it didn’t stick. After many years in the corporate communications world, she feels she has left Kansas for the dynamic, creative land of Oz, otherwise known as PUNCH. There is no going back. In addition to being the first person you meet at the front desk, Dinah is a master when it comes to multitasking. She keeps the PUNCH crew organized and happy, while juggling several tasks at once. Away from work is no different. Dinah doesn’t waste a minute of time, busying herself by expanding her cooking repertoire, taking road trips with her dog, Penny, or learning the art of jewelry making. There’s never a dull moment with Dinah.

  • Rebekah Closs width=

When a client says his goal is to get from point A to point B, Rebekah can plot a course better than MapQuest. She honed her strategic planning skills while earning an undergraduate degree in art history from Virginia Tech, and a graduate degree in design management from the Savannah College of Art and Design. That, coupled with on-the-job experience, makes her the perfect liaison between our creative team and our clients. Although slightly obsessed with Hokie sports, we’re glad that she knows that orange and maroon do not go together, except when on Tech’s campus. She’s glad to be back in Richmond, where she is busy checking out the local arts scene, learning to play the guitar, and looking for the perfect dog to adopt.

  • Rachael Steinhoff width=

A Richmond native, Rachael couldn’t fathom living anywhere else but the River City—except time spent honing her talents at Virginia Tech. Even then, she received her degree in Marketing Management in only three and half years. Call her nerdy, but she couldn’t wait to get back to the Commonwealth to pursue her career. And, as PUNCH’s New Business/Account Manager, Rachael taps into that same drive for our clients—setting goals, outlining objectives, and always meeting deadlines. Out of the office, Rachael keeps busy taking care of her Labrador, learning how to cook, and being something of a fitness hound.

  • David Mizelle width=

Dave probably got hooked on design when, as a four year old, he had a drawing published by Highlights Magazine. This was a huge rush, and he’s been driven to indulge his creative side ever since. Dave holds a BFA in graphic design from VCU and his favorite Pantone color is 299. He is also an avid photographer, which adds to his keen graphic eye. A bit of a baseball junkie and history buff, he hopes to indulge two passions at once by living in historic downtown Richmond and supporting the Flying Squirrels.

  • Angeline Vaughn width=

As a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Angeline received her bachelor of science in business with a concentration in marketing. Renowned for her research skills, Angeline is interested in all things Web. As a project manager at PUNCH, her daily activities revolve around Web site architecture, SEO, and digital advertising. Originally hailing from the Ocean State (that’s Rhode Island, folks), Angeline feels right at home in the River City. Growing up surrounded by water, she understandably loves kayaking and sailing. Her out-of-water hobbies include traveling and planning her next big adventure.

  • Jill Comstock width=

Jill may be our resident art history expert, but she spends her days at PUNCH mastering another art form, multi-tasking, as one of our project managers. She also puts her VCU School of the Arts degree in photography and film to good use as our office photographer (and is responsible for making everyone look so fabulous in their PUNCH headshots). Jill grew up on a farm near Charlottesville, so she knows a thing or two about “life on the farm.” While in college she fell in love with the city life, but dreams of one day creating a vast dog preserve where all dogs can run free.

  • Liana Mensh width=

Liana was first introduced to graphic design when she saw a book of fonts in Borders the summer of her senior year of high school. At the time she thought, “These are my people,” but wasn’t ready to commit just yet. After two years of trying to create a graphic design curriculum at University of Virginia, Liana transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University’s graphic design program and has never looked back. Her love affair with typography has only grown stronger over the years and she hopes to draw her own font some day. Although schooled in print, Liana is embracing the digital realm and looks forward to creating interesting and refined design for the web. Besides graphic design, Liana loves people watching and photographing (with her grandfather’s Pentax K1000) in Richmond. She can be seen and heard clunking around town in her 91 cherry red 4runner, Stella.

Waxers, non-repro blue pencils, x-actos, hot lead, and typesetting machines and processors have given way to wires, laser printers, and computers small enough to carry under our arms.
